>> Dangerous Spring Thunderstorm Hits Colorado with Tornadoes and Hail
Up to Six Tornadoes Touch Down Says Storm Chasers
The National Weather Service reported multiple tornado touchdowns in Aurora, just east of Denver, Wednesday, May 21st stemming from a dangerous super cell thunderstorm that ended up dropping huge amounts of hail. One of the six tornadoes reached a mile from Denver airport, causing several planes to be taken out of service due to the hail damage. In addition, approximately 38 flights were delayed and caused the average wait times up to 90 minutes.
The tornadoes' damage was relative to the rural areas with high wind damage and baseball-sized hail damage according to several storm chasers in the area. For most of Wednesday evening, northern Colorado were receiving tornado watch, heavy rain causing minor street flooding and small hail through Boulder, Loveland and Fort Collins, Colorado.
The AP reported that more spring thunderstorms are expected Thursday, May 22nd along eastern Colorado.
