>> Really? Concrete Storm Shelter Certified to Meet or Exceed FEMA-320 Standards?

Why your storm shelter certification is important to you and to U.S. Storm Shelters

According to FEMA-320 standards, having a safe room or storm shelter for your home or business can provide "near-absolute protection" from injury or death in the event of dangerous forces and extreme wind from tornadoes, hurricanes and storms. FEMA includes their extensive knowledge and recorded information in investigating damage done to buildings and homes from extreme winds. This information has been compiled with results of more than 30 years of research by Texas Tech University's Wind Science and Engineering department, along with other wind engineering research facilities focusing on the effects of extreme winds on buildings.

This resulted in FEMA P-320 documentation which is provided to builders and contractors of safe rooms and exterior shelters.

That's why at U.S. Storm Shelters we build and manufacture through some of the most stringent requirements to produce some of the best quality exterior concrete storm shelters on the market including:

  • 3" thick walls and 4" thick floor of 6,500 PSI concrete with fibermesh
  • 3/8" Schedule 60 rebar reinforcement on 9" to 12"
  • Self-sealing waterproofing for up to 40+ years
  • 10 gauge steel door, with replaceable hinges and latches
  • powder coated door and stair coatings
  • Pad lockable with safety override to prohibit being locked inside
  • Made in the USA

Why FEMA standards mean so much to us is because it can mean everything to our customers, including their most valuable assets, family and employees. This is also why U.S. Storm Shelters is a producing member of the American Tornado Shelter Association for testing and certification.
