1-2-3 Step Checklist for Safety
It's important to have a plan and prepare for the event of a tornado or dangerous storm in your home or business. There are a variety of things to consider when determining your family or employees safety, and we would offer a simple 1-2-3 step process of ensuring your safety and security during possible storms or tornadoes in your area.
The first step is to stay informed. We recommend staying on top of the latest weather reports for your area. This includes tuning into the radio, television, The Weather Channel or NOAA weather watch for the latest reports and notices. This is important because the most recent radar technology is available and immediate alerts notifying you of dangerous storms or tornadoe warnings.
The second step is to establish a shelter location. Whether you prefer a basement, an exterior or in-ground storm shelter or an interior safe room in your home or business, make sure it is certified and is a tested and proven product and that meets FEMA standards. The American Tornado Shelter Association is a non-profit storm shelter certification organization that provides standards for tornado and storm shelter manufacturers to follow as well as meet and exceed FEMA standards. U.S. Storm Shelters is a certified ATSA producing member of exterior storm shelters and interior safe rooms.
The third step is preparation. This includes preparing your safe room or storm shelter in the event of an emergency. From batteries, to flashlights, to water, and blankets, everyone's individual needs vary, but making a list and having the available supplies in hand and ready in the event of a oncoming storm or tornado can save time getting to your shelter, and possibly even your life. You will want to have these necessities on hand or in the shelter ahead of time.
