Full Size and Built for Superior Strength
Our largest Safe Rooms are designed for installation inside your home or business. Secured to an existing concrete slab, these units can be incorporated into most structures without the need for complex or expensive remodeling. A U.S. Storm Shelters Safe Room offers convenient and immediate access to protection from a dangerous storm or unwanted intruder. In addition to safety and security U.S. Storm Shelters Safe Rooms can be relocated should you ever move. Most storm shelters are designed to remain permanently in place. Our Safe Rooms can be disassembled, moved and safely reinstalled at a new location for much less than the cost of a replacement shelter. |
Construction and Specifications of our Full Size Safe Rooms
- Constructed of 8” wide, structural steel “C” channels bolted into 1/4” thick angle iron frames with 1/2” grade-5 bolts.
- 8” channels in the walls, roof and door(s) provides 2 1/4” reinforcement ribs every 8” throughout the entire safe room. Each channel is .22" thick at its center.
- Engineer evaluated, debris impact tested and ATSA certified, our safe rooms are rated for EF-5 storms and are installed using properly spaced Hilti® 1/2" diameter building anchors.
- All Full Size Safe Rooms come with a 32" inch wide door that opens to the interior of the unit with a low threshold for handicap accessibility.
- The door is secured from the interior with tubular stainless steel cross members, in addition to two deadbolt locks. Doors may be located on any wall and can have a right or left swing.
- All Full Size Safe Rooms have an exterior height of 7 ft and an interior ceiling height of 6 ft 9 inches.
- Air flow is handled with passive ventilation throughout the unit and there are no large openings for debris to enter.
- All U.S. Storm Shelters Safe Rooms are powder coated.
- A 20% deposit is required before we can start construction of your unit. Typical lead time is 4 to 6 weeks time depending on demand. (We sometimes have smaller units in stock).

Smaller "Mighty Mite" Safe Rooms To Fit Your Space
Designed with the exact EF-5 certification as our larger shelters. This line offers the same protection inside your home, office or garage with a smaller footprint at less cost.
Built with the identical high strength materials as our Full Size Safe Rooms, the Mighty Mite I has an exterior of just 26 1/2 inches x 38 1/2 inches and can safely accommodate two standing adults. The Mighty Mite II is slightly larger with outside measurements of 34 1/2 inches x 46 1/2 inches for three standing adults. The largest, Mighty Mite III, is our most popular model with exterior dimensions of 38 1/2 inches x 50 1/2 inches, providing protection for four standing adults. All Mighty Mite safe rooms have an exterior height of 7 ft and an interior ceiling height of 6 ft 9 inches.
The smaller size requires Mighty Mite doors to swing outward. Because of this design requirement, each unit comes standard with an emergency exit wrench secured inside the safe room. The entire safe room can be disassembled from the interior should the door become blocked by debris following a storm. When closed, the door is secured by two deadbolt locks in addition to three stainless steel tubular cross bars held by welded brackets.
Every Mighty Mite safe room is anchored with the same Hilti® system used on Full Size Safe Rooms. All Mighty Mites come with an interior, battery operated LED tap light, along with dual, identically keyed Kwikset deadbolt locks.
